Do you smell Gas?

If you have a gas leak or you can smell gas you must immediately evacuate the property, and contact the National Grid Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

After you have completed this, you must report the issue both through this system and by telephone, on 01562 822004.

complaints procedure

When speaking to a member of staff from the National Grid, you will be asked to provide the following details:

  • The address of the property
  • Your name and phone number
  • Where do you think the leak is coming from?
  • How many people are at the property?
  • How long has the smell been noticeable?
  • Is there a smell coming from the cellar/basement?
  • Are any neighbours affected?
  • Are there any special circumstances or access information?

Here at Norgrove Sales & Lettings we will also need to be informed of any gas leaks in the property.

You'll be asked a series of questions designed to help the National Grid build a picture of the reported gas escape or gas emergency. From these details, they can identify the right gas safety advice to give to you, such as:

  • Opening doors and windows
  • Turning the gas off at the meter (unless the meter is located in the cellar/basement)
  • Avoiding the use of any naked flames or electrical switches
